Bet Dougals Turner is a horst link one :D I can't imagine his love of horst link design has migrated to these short link systems.

There is a non-durable 2006 Enduro with snapped drive-side chainstay in our house, next to a Horst-link 2005 5pot in fine condition.

Judging 2014's on 2006 models isn't useful. I've owned a cpl specialized, the alloy frames have been sweet. Have known a cpl of carbons to crack but they get replaced no questions, usually with s-works frames. I don't see many complaining about the back up.

Worst part about specialized for me is the wheels - spoke nipples are crap, wheels aren't ideal. First upgrade to put dollars aside for is a decent wheelset. Same can probably be said from plenty of mass produced brands I imagine.

The specialized-are-douches argument against them is the most valid. That company treats the little guys like crap. They're bullies and should be ignored.

Also, judging any brand just because "you've seen a broken frame" from that brand is stupid. Everything breaks. I've seen broken frames from pretty much every brand. Yes, even Turner Mr Velocipedestrian.

Or like Mr Cruise says, judging something now from how a brand was 10 years ago is also dumb. There is nothing wrong with Specialized's quality of manufacture I'm sure.
