I've found myself trawling through their model lists guessing the base models.

Here's a couple more the "Safe" and the "Florid" ...

Safety of Chinese cars are signifcantly behind the Japanese, Koreans and even US manufacturers.

Not as bad as the used to be but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dimg2n2Azwg

Why becasue you can't go fast enough to cause any damage??

Safe = something with airbags and ABS minimum.

I'd never go for an chinese ute, I got a new STX last year (2wd) and it was the most expensive of the ones I tried. The Hilux and Ranger in were less than $30k, and the STX less than $40k.

As a 4wd that ute would be about as good as a 4x4 station wagon

The Florid is a Scion ripoff. With a bit of Echo and Swift thrown in for good measure too by the looks of it

If i was in the market and able to update my new car every few years. Id be driving either a Subaru, Nissan or VW. Although Hyundia do make a world class car these days they just dont appeal to me. As for these GWM id say they will be a good seller in 5 years or so. But i wouldnt put it on my purchase list.

That will work the same way as Hyundai, by the time they can make a good car it'll be the same price as any of the other good cars.

I'm irrational enough to like euro cars. I have a VW and would certainly buy a new one if I had the money. But then again, I would never buy a new car! :p

I don't think I would ever buy a chinese car. I've never been interested in korean cars either. I like some jap cars... I like cars which have a bit of character... chinese and korean cars currently don't, they look more like appliances.

Maybe if they made a supercar it would help with their marketing.

germans don't make 'proper' european cars - they're far too reliable and sensibly designed! you need to buy a REAL european car and experience life on the edge (will it go? will it leak? will the trim randomly fall off one hot summers day?). Ideally something trully eccentric like a citroen (an old bx16gt perhaps? that should be fun) or an older fiat (131 supermirafiori ftw! )

Not a car guy in the least, but surely the Chinese haven't just started making cars - isn't this just their first real push into the export market?

My only experience of Chinese cars are their VW Passat taxis - not super impressed with those, I have to say.
