Worsleys Stone Huts?

Postby cuckingfntstolemyKOM on Sat 6/Sep/14 12:11pm

Hi everyone, it's my first post here.

I've been riding a track in Worsleys lately and there are a couple of falling apart stone huts/houses in there. Can anyone explain what they were used for in the past? They look about the same age age the "sign of the ..." huts.

[EDIT] I should add these are in chch.

Never seen them - you must have found a 'new' track :-)
roughly whereabouts?

If you came down the bodybag and then turn right to go to the tracks, at the top of that bit by the fence there is another track that continues up the hill. Halfway along that is a track that goes down the hill. The huts are partway down this hill and have been incorporated in the the trail design.

I rode that section twice today and didn't see them, must be concentrating too hard on the trail

You're talking about the bit that rolls into Debbie Does Dallas? It's hard to tell on that wee map.

yep, the (new-ish) lead in to Debbie Does Dallas. we found them a while back and wondered about them too. also wondered if maybe they were some sort of farming structure, like a really old water tank, but doubt that. pretty cool, and well worked blocks...

By the way. tis but for the grace of an imaginary deity that we're riding in there, so absolute descriptions of the access to them isn't the bestest idea... Fight Club is called Fight Club for a good reason... 1st rule, and all that???
tho, less of an issue now that Chch 'Adventure' Park is moving on in, it's still McVicar's land and we're only in there cos they're turning a blind eye.

Pretty sure that used to be a catholic nun's retreat up on top of marley's hill, wonder if the stone huts were related to that ( some place for them to go retreat from the retreat? )

Also - this website is extremely cool. Aerial shots of all of ChCH dating back to 1941. http://canterburymaps.govt.nz/WebApps/tourofchch/
