World Champs Night Racing

Postby OldCrank on Thu 25/Jun/09 10:49pm

Night racing at it's finest ( http://www.bluedogevents.co.nz).
1200 Lumens of helmet light
one pinhole security lipstick camera
one Panasonic Camcorder
a whole lot of batteries and wires, all wedged into a small backpack.

Good stuff. That's a good setup you have there. Out of curiosity, what ballpark time did you get?

Excellent vid. Always looks so slow and relaxed on film, seems a lot more intense and chaotic when you're racing!

I'm not really pushing myself during this series, so that was just under 55 minutes.

It's not quite so hectic down the back of the field :)

I was pretty happy with the video output, considering it's night time and completely
dark out there. I'm lucky that the lipstick cam is so sensitive.

My 30seconds of fame!

Does look SO SLOW! Although you see me passing someone on a climb which is great.

Thanks for posting that great vid.
Quite a few people I know seem to think that I'm mad for racing round a forest at nighttime, and it's good to be able to show them vids like this and watch their faces

That's cos we're so slow down the back that we might have to camp out for the night .... :(

I'm just finishing off the Final race video, it should be ready in about an hour or so - it's a bit more exciting than this one.

Ok, here's the final race in the series. We attached the Helmet Cam to Rob Soothill's helmet (Number 1 Vet 2 man) - placement was a bit of a guess, that's why some of the footage is down a bit. Audio was left alone with no music track.
It was difficult to squeeze a whole race into a file size that's uploadable, so the framerate is a bit lower than I would have liked.

Anyway here's Rob in action - you'll notice some of his dodgy lines and overtaking moves :sly:
