A bit like new parents? (not super scared, but using coffee as a sleep substitute)

New parents are a danger to themselves and others. I can't imagine the chaos that would result if most of the people in a workplace were that bad.

A woman who had thyroid cancer was given a low performance rating after she returned from treatment. She says her manager explained that while she was out, her peers were accomplishing a great deal. :(

SADLY... I have heard of TWO govt depts recently where this has happened. TWO! In NZ!!!

I happened to have an article about this open in my browser when I clicked on this thread. A different side to the story...

I'm sure there are a few bad managers at Amazon, just like anywhere (the 2 NZ govt departments story is zero surprise), but I'm inclined to believe Nick's version, especially based on other things I've read about Amazon and it's history.

Note amazon is using that post as their response to this.

Also that blokes position is much higher up in the chain than many of the people cited in the original article (he is a manger of managers by his own description)

I've been through a few companies in NZ and the UK where you'd easily find similar stories. Usually boils down to either a poor manager or a one sided story.

I've had Manager's that have treated me like shit, I once had an evaluation where I was told I spell badly and walk around too much rather than anything constructive (this was in a management grade). In the job I'm in now (government agency in NZ), again a management grade, and my boss has tried stuff on like that a few times. Trying to make me feel bad about not working too long and hard.

I bet he makes you get out of bed and fix bikes all day, is super prescriptive about hours, and bans coffee in the workshop. What a chode.

Farm has a valid point, GM likely has as much dirt on you as vice versa.
