Is Woodhill Worth The Drive With Increased Fuel Prices?

Postby Spokes on Sun 8/Jun/08 8:18am

Well now fuel is on the up and up is it worth the drive all the way out to Woody?

Do we need to lobby/find/make areas closer to town to ride?

The drive all the way out there cant be very Green with so many cars going each day.

As Riverhead is closer is that a better venue as it offers better riding?

Do we need to get the Waitakere Ranges opened up to us?

How about some good urban rides?

woodhill is a far out place, but seriously i dont think the rise in petrol will stop people driving out there, maybe they will do it less often but people will always drive and rely on petrol to get places!

Its a far out place if you like structures or dirt jumps. But for trail riding its average.

yes i agree, should head out to somewhere like whitford, riverhead even hunua for good trails!!
some people go out to woodhill to ride trails which i think is stupid, but for DJz and Bigish structures. woodhill is the place to be

Riverhead obviously. If you are in the southern parts of auckland then Hunua and Whitford. Or move to welly if you want to ride from your doorstep.

Yes, as I stated in my first post. But RH is not good winter riding due to its clay nature, not impossible though. WCRC is doing very good work up there.

Im thinking something closer to town Waitakeres etc.

It's a pity the Auckland city council doesn't open it's eyes and offer a regular rail service - the helensville/northland main trunk line is only 1.5 k's from the bluegums carpark area.
Can you picture this:
Mountain bikers on a saturday morning heading for Britomart station with bikes heading to woodhill for the day.
Ok So granted, this wouldn't work for everyone E.g. north shore which doesn't have a rail network.
But it would work for some parts of auckland.
I know I would've used this service if it existed, and I still lived in auckland.

To get to Woodhill its a 40min drive from my place. There was a time last year for a few months when i would be there every weekend. It was the place to be for the structures and jumps. But now as i find my riding style changing, and myself paying for the petrol - i realise Woodhill is just average.

The last time i was at Woodhill was Good Friday. Its really not worth the drive (maybe Mr Bon is :D ) especially not when i have Whitford 15mins down the road. Or i can drop in on Hunua and then Puni on the way home...

These days its looking like Whitford is my home away from home. Just gotta get my lights sorted out and get back out there scoping for the next new trail...
