Re: Wiggle - Import Tax

I just got a chain from PBK - interestingly it was charged in NZ dollars and there is no currency exchange fee on my visa statement.
i presume that means they charge in nz dollars form Overseas.
seemed like an improvement. ie no currency exchange fee and charges exactly what it said on their website
are CRC and wiggle or others doing that now?

Wiggle suck balls. Took them 3 months to deliver my wheels which there website said was in stock. When they did come back in stock they sent them to the wrong address twice.

Prices aren't even that good anymore. Euro based shops like bike24 are much cheaper these days with the Euro being so weak.

dunno if they's cheeper than crc for those brands, but pretty good deals are to be had at Endless.com? they got quite a few five tens and tevas. They're in US$ and if ya pick your exchangeage rateable at the right time they work out pretty good. free shipping too. (tho, strangely, some makes and models they wont ship outside US)

Has anyone dealt with http://www.pro4sport.co.uk/ ?

They also trade though ebay.
Reviews on ebay look good but reviews elsewhere are mixed.

I'm considering getting some new running shoes from Wiggle. Having never ordered from them before what are my chances of NZ Customs nabbing me for duty and all their other B.S admin fees (like we actually make shoes in NZ anymore, especially running shoes). I've ordered running shoes from USA and bike shoes from CRC plenty of times and have never been pinged. Have I just been lucky?

If the GST is under $50 they don't bother collecting it, and your stuff gets through no worries. From my experience they don't charge the import duties for shoes, just the GST. If it's over $50 sometimes it gets through, sometimes not. So you can spend up to about $350, including shipping, knowing you won't get charged anything by Customs. After that it's the luck of the draw

if its under $400NZ, you should be fine. my last order from wiggle was only around $100NZ, and at the same time i got one from CRC at $370odd NZ, and both came in with no trouble at all.

are your shoes more than $400NZ?

If the price of shoes was determined by the size I would be pushing $400, luckily they're not. Last time I imported shoes there was no Custons admin free so I'm just probably being overly cautious. I found the same shoes for $10 less on CRC so I think I'll go that route.

CRC will charge you for shipping, so may yet be more expensive there...

Very true. In this case I've included it but I've certainly been caught out by shipping rates in the past. Somebody needs to explain how most UK based places ship for peanuts but the US firms gouge like there's no tomorrow. I need some new Heckler stickers and Santa Cruz want to charge $50 US for postage on a $20 product. Those US postal companies are stupidly expensive. They can also be very fast though - if you're prepared to pay for it.

yeah, US postage costs are ridiculous. its the main thing that puts me off ordering stuff from there... altho, Endless.com (for shoes) always do free shipping...

Endless charged me $10US for shipping on a pair of shoes. Still cheap compared to postage costs from most US websites.
