Who Do You Recommend For Pc Repairs In Taupo?

Postby sooby on Mon 21/Jul/08 11:41am

We’re having problems with our computer freezing (application hang), I’ve tried all the simple fixes myself (like ccleaner, anti-spyware, anti-virus, windows updates..) with no luck so now it’s time to take it to a pro.

Does anyone here know a PC repair place in Taupo they have used & can recommend?

Thanks

http://www.okcomputer.co.nz/ - owned by a cyclist and reputed to give very good support (my in-laws have used them for years.)

If its an old PC, it can be almost cheaper to replace it (Box only and keep your screen mouse, keyboard etc) than have a tech spend a few hours on it.. make sure you get a quote first.

Basically sounds like you need to format the hard drive and reinstall your apps..

cheers ThingOne,

It was built in mid 2003 and to a pretty good spec.

I can't really complain as we've very little problems with it.

I've got a feeling now it's most likely the HDD is starting to fill up, will have a purge of unnecessary stuff & run ccleaner & see what happens.

We've backed up all our stuff recently so I guess worse case scenario is we pay a tech for a few hours work & problems sorted.

man, I love how the answer to all life's questions are here on vorb!

well, thanks again Tama for the recommendation. :)

OK Computer fixed our pc & I really felt like we were being taken good care of (quite rare as usually with tech jargon like mechanics & technicians its easy to be dazzled with flash words & left feeling ripped off).

Would definitely recommend them & glad I asked for personal experiences rather than just choosing a tech at random from the yellow pages.

Just an update:

Took the same PC to OK Computer again for similar problems earlier this year, and this time had the polar opposite experience!

-The technician didn’t listen to what we had to say regarding steps we had already taken to remedy the problem ourselves, dismissing them entirely.

-The technician was asked to call us on completion of work, which he failed to do so we were without our computer for more days than was necessary.

-The problem was never fixed or addressed properly as the tech couldn’t replicate our symptoms in his lab, (granted this is a tough ask anyway) so we left with the PC in the same condition as it went in!!

-Felt the tech gave up & was out of ideas. The other tech working there seemed very negative, condescending & almost borderline hostile to deal with.

Expressed my dismay to the business owner with the below standard level of service & was met with little sympathy.

Feeling dissapointed, as OK Computer appeared to be different than other PC repair companys, bit of a let down to be honest…

If anyone knows any OTHER PC repairer in Taupo they can recommend I’m all ears.

Cheers :)
