Loving this riding from home bizzo, can see this becoming a well worn path for me. Two hours door to door works in well with kids afternoon sleeps too

Did the Mt Isobel Challenge today. After a 7.2km run (post2641904.html#p2641904) that was shorter by a couple of ks than usual thanks to some snow and ice up on the Isobel summit, and dicking about in transition a bit longer than I needed too - changing shoes, mulling over which gloves to wear, it was onto the bike and a good hoon, mostly in the rain, back the long way to Hanmer via the Clarence River Valley, dipping into Molesworth Station before swinging back over Jollies Pass and down into the ouskirts of town. Pretty much all gravel roads so nothing technical at all but a couple of great fast downhills and a couple of (deep thanks to the rain) fords to get across.

I've been working on some homemade PVC mudguards. Got 'em on and went to try them... And straight away the chain ends up in the spokes. Must have knocked the cable as the outer was all monged around the ferrule. So... then I fixed that, then I went for a ride.

Also I'm working on DIY waterproofing some stuff - silicone sealant smeared into neoprene toe covers worked brilliantly.

Rode black hill backwards today. Most pushing I've ever done in my life. Two epic descents on the fosters ridge trail! But I don't think I'd do it that way again.

We were going to do it the "correct" way but met a hunter on the track junction doing pest control for DOC, who was headed up fosters in the same direction we were going. Rather than ruin his hunt by being noisy mountain bikers we carried on down the wharfedale, had a think about what to do at the river and decided to carry on with the reverse loop.

Epic. That's a quarter-Everest right there.

It's a quarter strava-everest , a far cry from an actual quarter everest

Still a hard road though. It annoys me that again we didn't feel like we had enough buffer time to pop up to black hill hut. An excuse to go back though, go to the summit next time. Might wait until there's fresh snow, take the overnight gear and make a proper weekend of it. Snow rides are awesome.

Saturday rode a loop up belmont, first time up there. Up 4 degrees, down bull run, up hill road/old coach road, down borderline. Kept me honest for sure, one over the bars experience but landed on my feet which was a nice touch.

Sunday Wainui loop. bottom carpark up to top, down freewheel + snail trail back to bottom.

Team Taupo eventually arrived yesterday. Less available time than I'd hoped, so up the peak instead of Wainui.
T3, Vertigo and Live Wires.
Lots of bang for the buck, I also had an OTB, but did not land on my feet.
Full scorpion, one foot still clipped once everything stopped moving, both the other guys saw it, priceless.

Managed to get out for a Solstice MTB commute.
Haven't been on the MTB for a couple of months so it nearly killed me :)
