I went for a ride this afternoon and noticed they hav fixed the ruts up. Not sure how long thats going to last unless they have have put some big rocks in, It's a good bike on a day like today. Managed to climb all the way up without granny gear :) and had a lot of fun going down the otherside :thumbsup:

Cycling in Porirua – Latest news

=============================

From Hugh Peryman

Cycling in the Porirua area now has a new focus with the formation of the Mana Cycling Group (MCG).

This volunteer organisation is dedicated to promoting cycling in all forms for the Porirua area.

MCG members are diverse and represent interests from the Tawa Off Road Riders Club, Porirua City Council, Green Bike Trust and local bike shop Avanti Plus Porirua.

So far the MCG has identified 10 hot spots that have been raised by cyclists that need improvement with recommendations forwarded to the PCC. Things are looking great on this front and we could see action with some of these issues.

The Colonial Knob and Spicer mountain biking project is one area that could interest the PNP members.

Significant things have happened since the PCC purchased the Knob from private ownership.

PCC have instigated a study of the knob and Spicer forest with the Regional Council and DOC.

The results of the study have yet to be released but hopefully should give the green light to developing this area for Mountainbiking. This should start the ball rolling for track planning and funding. Ideas and enthusiasm are for a cross county course and an international level down hill track. Yeh ha!

The PCC have been awesome so far with their support so we are optimistic that once this stage is completed it will be all down hill (as gravity is the friend of Mountainbikers)!

Please refer to the MCG link for further information-

previous e-mails that went to the Colonial knob org are now being answered by the MCG.

The Makara Peak Supporters would be happy to provide examples of their agreements with the WCC, and the WCC Parks and Gardens might well be able to provide some input on how to create a MTB park for little cash outlay :)

In fact MPS have already been involved. I went out to meet with various folk from PCC 3 or 4 years ago, and took their tracks guy for a walk around Makara Peak...
