Joop Zoetemelk had a resting HR of 60. Miguel Indurain 28. Both won the Tour. Mine was 37 when I was fab. Now I is flab the heart has to work a bit harder.

When it comes to physical exercise though I monitor how quickly my heart rate returns to normal after much exertion - at the moment , not good

It is the point where your heart rate plateaus during constant submaximal (ie below your most hard out) effort. The lower it is, the more efficient your heart is.

I don't think resting HR means much as an absolute measurement. It's more useful to watch the variation.

Just to be clear tartgrandmother, what are you asking for? Resting heart rate or at some steady aerobic pace?

My resting rate is 60 lying in bed in the morning, or 72 sitting at my desk right now. At a steady aerobic pace on a long ride it might be 160, I don't really know.
