I'd rather be here and havnig National be frugal than back in the UK with Brown spending like mad.

I imagine they needed to make the budget as doleful as possible in order to justify taking an axe to "deferring" their election-bribe tax cuts (until after their term in Government is over).

And now Parliament's in urgency to undo the tax cuts that they went into urgency in October to put in place.
That government excess right there!

Labour should filibuster the crap out of them. Propose ammendments that would see the PM given a spanking by the speaker as punishment for lying, etc.

If they could filibuster for 10 1/2 months then we'd get the 1 April tax cuts!
Might suggest this...

A bit late I know, but sometimes the media are actually capable of just reporting things. It's not an automatic given that they will slant a story or add bias. If you hone your critical abilities and reading comprehension skills it's often possible to discern the facts from the bullshit anyway.

So who didn't think the gummint was going to promise to do wonders for everybody and then come budget time pull out the standard 'oh no, now that we've had a look at the books we can't afford it' line. You'd have to be very naive to believe that you were actually going to get anything that was promised at election time.
