I love mine. Elevation data seems a bit variable though.

just got one, still working out all its workings etc, but 3 guys I ride with have them and reckon they are the best thing since....

I got the 705 over the 500 for the maps GPS feature. gives it double use as a navigation tool as well for travelling around.

I also find being able to compare my stats with others over the same rides handy as it gives me a real guide as to my performance and allows my 'coach' who's based out of town the ability to look at my data and give me advise on my training

Yeah, i'm pretty happy with mine, i also take it tramping and the like.
as already said the elevation can be quite a bit out (barometric altimeter i think), this can be adjusted online.
The battery is good for 1-2 days (12hrs) but for multi day events you will need to charge it. i use a little solar panel which work alright (as long as you get to where you are going before dark)
Also the caleries burnt is quite a bit off on this, check out the forums for more accurate estimates.

Purchased one in Europe complete with maps, for a recent "touring" trip there.

1. Big
2. Maximum of 100 waypoints / turns etc on any one navigation, this was an issue when trying to find a point to point route for a days riding of 100 - 200 km.
3. Very slow to update if you miss a turn or deviate form the chosen route.
3a. Very slow to calculate route at start of the day if 30 + km of riding distance, started plotting shorter routes to get around this.
4. Battery life was good, could ride for 2 x 8 hour days before the recharge
5. More features than you could ever want to use
6. Display can show 1 - 8 items
7. Had to constantly reset the back light (would not stay where I set it)

Bling value is high, but get the 800 . . . .

Do I use it now . . . no. Just the Joule 2, GPS is nice but hey . . . .

Just my 2 cents worth gathered (actually having owned one) over 2,500 km of use in Europe in 20 days.

Hope this helps.

you have to set it every time you switch it on. they changed this with the lastest software, but then withdrew the latest software...

Garmin's track record with new products is absolutely awful so I would stick with the 705. Wait a year or so once all the firmware updates are out and then buy the 800.
