What's The Best Race Tyres For Whakarewarewa Forest?

Pretty much what the title says. Trying to suss out some race tyres for a steel hardtail for the SS champs: what-ratio-are-you-going-run-the-singlespeed-champs-t94542.html

Any recommendations?

In the dry, Notubes "The Raven" are great. I'm running a Raven on the rear and a Geax Barro Race on the front - a little extra knobbage on the Geax, and still very light and tubeless ready.

If it's damp at all I've had good luck with Schwalbe Racing Ralphs.

If you want "Race" but also want fun, fast and versatile then the best tyres I've run up here are Crossmarks on the back, ADvantage on the front. The monorails look good, but haven't tried them.

I run ADvantages on the front all year round, they rock. One on the back once it gets wet too. Perfect vegas tyres.

Another vote for Advantages if it's a winter "muddy" course, if it's dry or hardpack, I've been using geax Saguaro's. fast, with a ton of grip when you need it.

Another vote for Stans Ravens in the dry, they kill crossmarks in all respects when run at the right pressure

I ran a crow in the rear and a Larsen tt up fron on the weekend.

The crow was alright on the rear but I imagine would be death on a stick on the front. On loose gravel even on the rear is a handful.

I'll probably stick with this combo for the ss mainly cause I can't be arsed changing tires. As always a front and rear Larsen tt combo would be a good choice.

Ha! I just looked at my tyre selection and thought about how they're going to perform over 4 days of rain in Whakarewarewa - not too confident :huh:

I've got the choice of changing them tonight or just committing and running with them and hoping I don't bonk my head again.

I'm feeling lazy so the latter course of action feels about right
