Excuse my ignorance, but what is a 'dongle'?

a thing you plug into a port. it sort of dangles.

various functions: adapter between types of plug, converter of signal, in the olden days you would often get dongles which contained licensing keys for certain software running on the server: no dongle present, software no run. like a usb stick.

dongle = "a small plug-in thing"

j2hyde wrote:We have dongles getting buying access to restricted license modeling software. It's a little usb stick, and if it's not attached to the machine the program won't run. They expire after a certain period of time. A basic maptek dongle for example is 50K a year - stops you bootlegging their IP basically.

So the person who loses the dongle is provided with some lube?

iPad questions.
1. How do you upload attachments from iPad to Vorb. The 'Choose file' key is greyed out.

2. Photo's on some posts do not show the full image. Its like large photo's are shown at full scale, and most of the picture is cropped out.

As far as I know?

1. You don't.
2. That is not a question.

Saying that my ipad was very nice to have on longish flights, as well as for storing giant RAW images so I did not have to buy additional CF cards. If it does what you are looking for, they are great - but they are not for everyone (same with tablets in general).

Not so far as I know - it's why we used to tell people to not post with [img] tags - just because it looks fine on your platform does not mean it will work for everyone... but that time has passed, so again you are SOL unfortunately.

i have a motorola Xoom, and IMHO it is equal if not better than a ipad. quality build with the flexibility of Android. perfect. but when looking at these devices, you just need to be aware that they are made for consuming not producing content. can write emails and forum posts.. but nothing else to strenous really.

although my xoom comes with a bluetooth keyboard/mouse. i have not been bothered to try it out yet.

Agreed on the consuming part - it's an excellent way to take in media :)

Android tablets still feel sluggish compared to an ipad2. Nuff said.

Anand has just reviewed the Asus Transformer Prime.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5163/asus ... a-3-review

Seems to come out very well, better screen than anything, decent performance and power etc.

Like him I cant wait for ICS to finally show its face.

Hope that quad core is a bit snappier than the current Tegra dual core. No ICS though, seems odd

It will come, its just not ready to deploy yet, the google phone shipped without it also.

My transformer is fine for anything other than chunky video, rest is quick and smothe.
