Johns over liners. I've never found it to be awkwardly fitting.

Polyprop against the taint is a bad bad idea. True for any high-pressure/movement area; it holds too much water and it's too rough. You want a different material there. For non-cycling applications silk or fine merino (or a blend) is a great option. For cycling an appropriate short with chamois. Polyprop can go over the top of such a garment quite nicely.

Cactus shorts ftw. They are kind of like Gremlins; all nice until they get wet and then they morph into heavy sandpaper beasts.

I also have a Cactus Windhoody for extra cold days. They are extremely warm and are virtually entirely windproof, but don't breathe too well and get pretty hot after the 10k commute mark.

I love my supertrousers but they're probably the worst pair of pants I own for riding a bike in.

I rate the Ground Effect Flash Gordon, thrashed an old one but it never delaminated or became completely useless, have the newer vest/jacket one and find it's about 50/50 use as each mode. I like being able to take the sleeves off if it warms up but still warrants the vest. It's more waterproof than I expected and it's now survived a car collision, been used mountain biking etc and durability is impressing. I also have the Helter Skelters which in combination with leg warmers and long waterproof socks are my full wet riding setup.

I find I use my 8oz black Cactus pants and shorts a lot and find them great for slightly wet days - the fabric is quite different to the heavier weights, smoother, doesn't get so wet and heavy. Now that we have a Cactus shop in Welly I must get in and have a look at their denim-ish jeans.

I have the large size GE jacket if you want to do a test for fit.

Thanks dragon_style, do you come down to town during the week? I think we're probably about the same size though. I wouldn't go as small as a medium on a jacket though so I think it will be large.

Maybe we need a pole. How many pairs of supertrousers does the vorbcensus own?

Are they breatheable? Cotton canvas, initially, strikes me as an obscure choice of material for work trousers... because if they get soaked.... You get a heavy, freezing mess. Might as well just buy some cheap jeans and Scotchguard them. But maybe they ARE good? Cactus don't tend to make crap...

They get wet slower than jeans, and dry faster while wearing them.
