I'm both. I fucking love all my friends and hanging out with them, doing whatever, is great fun. In saying that, I couldn't do it all day everyday. On the other hand, I love hanging out on my own...walking to the local market, seeing a movie, cafe lunches, watching people, reading, listenening to music, driving. And I really, really dislike exercising with others. I'm quite happy to plug my ipod in and do my thing. My other half is a complete introvert. If he is going to do anything with other people then he really has to put some pressure on himself...he's great once he's doing it, getting there is the hard part and there is a very select few people who he socialises and plays with. Lucky for me I don't feel ashamed to be a loner. :)

And now that I think about it...I think ALL those people that I fucking love are introverted. Go figure.

yeah i am more on the introvert side, hate going to parties and meeting new people.. but fine in a one on one sense. but on the otherside of the coin i am extroverted in the sense of having no issue with public speaking and outspoken with people i know!

so bit of both.

The public speaking thing is an interesting one, but apparently it's not uncommon for introverts to be confident public speakers (see below). I do it for a living, FFS! :D

Do you know someone who needs hours alone every day? Who loves quiet conversations about feelings or ideas, and can give a dynamite presentation to a big audience, but seems awkward in groups and maladroit at small talk? Who has to be dragged to parties and then needs the rest of the day to recuperate? Who growls or scowls or grunts or winces when accosted with pleasantries by people who are just trying to be nice?

I consider myself to be fully introverted. But I have to be honest the public speaking call definitely isn't me. At work, when I'm talking to customers, it's fully an act, I hate taking to people I don't know, I totally dislike going to parties. I'd rather sit at home and watch a DVD by myself.

Shy/introvert here. Is Vorb full of introverts because we can not be arse/to scared to go out and meet new people?

probably, though the point of the article is to point out that it's a lot more than "cannot be arsed or too scared"! ;)

That was the bit I found interesting, as it's an odd combination of traits when you think about it. I have no trouble getting up in front of students (not to mention academics at a conference) and saying my piece, but when it comes to chit chat I couldn't be fucked for the most part. One of the reasons I like giving talks is that people have to STFU for a few minutes so that I can explain things. :)

I figure I have enough friends already and can't be arsed with people who feel the need to make small talk with me when I really don't feel any need to have them in my life. On the flip side I have forced myself upon people who are truly introverted because I wanted them to be my buddy :). It's worked out ok. They actually text me first sometimes...LOL!!
