XC: Wharfedale Ride - Put Forward

Postby more_horse_link on Tue 3/Jun/08 2:12pm

When?: Leave Christchurch for about 8.30am
Meeting Place: We can meet at my place to sort out car pooling/ and or meet on route

After the success at this weekends ride at Craigieburn it was suggested that we meet up to ride Wharfdale. So here it is.

If this date is a wash out- we can go the following weekend

Bring food, warm gear, water and a bike that works  . If people need a lift- shout out and we will try and work something out.

Hey guys,

I am keen for Wharfdale next weekend!

Keep me informed Paul. I dont know this track soI cant be any sort of a guide. I will bring the trusty Kennett Brothers book.

Jo and Trumps, you guys are welcome to come along. As we get closer we can sort out finer details, in the mean time count me in!!

Gradient is mostly gently, but there are many many roots to test your skills on. Will be a bit mucky at this time of the year... but still all good.

About an hour to hour and a half to get to the saddle, another 40mins or so to get down to the river before the hut. Similar sort of time to get back out...

Really good fun riding. I really like it in there! I might be keen to come along too, and I know the track well. Whatever you do, do it as an in and back ride. Doing the circuit means about 75% riding of roads!!!

Actually those times I have put there are if you are pushing it pretty hard... some people might take as long as 2 and a half hours to get to the saddle...

Keen to grab a lift, or I can take a vehicle from Sydenham. I can do 5 people + 5 bikes.

Great to see some more interest! Fingers crossed for the weather too.

I'll keep the thread up-to-date as teh week continues.

Inzane... your offer of a lift for the group is awesome..... and I'm sure it will be well received if you are coming along.

Bump this up people :)

Weather is looking damn fine! I'm tentatively - weather permitting- saying I'm in!

Does anyone have a good link to the weather forecast for the week?

I never trust a weather forecast much over 2 days old...

but both Metservice and MetVUW have predictive rain radar... and to be honest the rain maps are often enough to tell what is going on...

7 day Met service map here http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/ind ... st_7daytas

10 day farmer forecast for canterbury here http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/ind ... buryplains

looks like it might be Nor-west just before or maybe on the weekend... Nor-west at Warfedale is ok, blows its arse off, but usually does not rain on the trail.

Sweet I am in. Zane if there is a seat in your car I will be stoked if my arse is on it.

Let me know times etc closer to the weekend,
