Let me know what it was like, how long it took you etc etc. Is the track easy to find?

Warfedale is a very good fun ride as long as you have some technical skills to ride over the wet slippery roots and rocks. The gradients are reasonably gentle most of the way, but have to work hard to get your bike over all the challenging bits along the way.

There are always wet patches and mud holes along the way. Most people ride up to the saddle and back down. Depending on skills this can take anywhere from 2.5 to 5 hours. We went into the hut and back and this took us about 5 hours, but we were going at a reasonable pace.

You need some good road maps to get you to the start of the ride, and you need a good vehicle that will get you through the fords (the first ford is very deep at the moment).

To find it, head out to Oxford, then driving west (towards the mountains) go out of Oxford, over the one land bridge and take the second right (I think, it should be called Woodstock Rd). Up Woodstock road and past the View Hill domain. Take the first right after the View Hill domain (Ingrams Rd), veer left around the corner and you will be on Lime works Rd ( http://www.smaps.co.nz/nz/waimakariri/o ... orks+road/ ). Veer right and it will change name to be Perhams Rd (this is where the 2 fords are). Up along here until you get to an intersection. The road to the right should be signposted as Warfedale Track. There are about 5 gates to open on the way up to the view hill car park.

if you scroll up (north) from that initial start on smaps it actually shows the track that you ride as an outline...

The 28th looks good. We can either go Friday night and stay over the weekend of just go early Saturday morning?

I'll have a chat with JP tonight and then post up a date
