Morning All

Just putting out a heads up for the next couple of planned trail digging days

18th and 25th of July, both Saturdays

The plan is to punch the trail though to Burma Road…I think this is about 150m of new trail.

I have the wood to do the Logride finale and 3 kick ass new fire rakes of doom to unleash upon the world

We’ll also need to finish the landing of the double rock drop of doom that was started the other week.

Other than that things are looking sweet up there, just need to get riding on it and see how the lines look etc.

If you’re keen to come along for some or all of it I’ll be there from 10am, bring your trail digging gears/food and head down The Green Mile and head down the new trail to the end. I have a good selection of toys stashed in the trees but more toys are welcome if you have them.

I shall attempt to get a map up in the club’s notice board just down from Laings Road soon, the map is mostly done.

Whare Flat Trails 09/10 Summer

Postby G on Tue 25/Aug/09 12:48pm

Afternoon all
Jon, Adam and I walked around Snakes n Ladders last night…it seems the season of growth is upon us (along with snow damaged trees)

I’d be keen to head up early Saturday morning with my petrol powered friend to deal to the gorse before it’s un-rideable. Thinking 0830 till 1300 should be enough time to wander through cutting stuff up and flicking it away. It’s mainly stage 2 that needs it but The Third Place needs some love too.

If you can help that would be awesome

Cheers

Hey

I managed to get stage 1 and half of stage 2 cleared ready for the summer on Saturday. Rode it on Monday night and it's sweet...the trail is dry but not dusty, offering loads of grip. with the trees growing there are now several no-look corners which add to the thrill.

While I was there Ant managed to piece together a sweet finish to The Third Place from the maliciously broken see-saw parts. it's now a short ladder drop out of the berm leading into a bigger ladder drop down onto Surgetank road. the first sweet the second requiring a little more coconuts...check before you leap.

I'm away this weekend but Saturday 12th September i want to finish clearing stage 2 and TTP, then bust through some more of the Green Mile. if you're keen to help your efforts would be appreciated, as we'd all rather be riding than trail building now that things are drying out.

Morning ya’ll

I’m heading up for some digging tomorrow. I’ll throw a couple of kick ass stakes into the stunts at the end of The Third Place to lock them in then I’ll head right to the end of the Green Mile and push through some more new trail. Hopefully across the clearing and down into the jumps line.
If you’re keen to help then bowl along, tools are there just bring energy, water and some food.

I’ll at the gate at 0930, drive along to just above the Double See-saw and ride in from there

So i've sprayed out some small orange X's to mark some of the stunts in the network. The new look entry is shown

X Caution

XX Special skills required

XXX Extreme skills required

Both danger and difficulty have been taken into account when rating the stunts, constructive feedback welcome.
As always check the stunt out before you attempt a stunt for the first time.

Re: Whare Flat Trails

Hey there

After an unexpected building session on Saturday the trail is now ride-able through to the final stunt, a mere 50m from Burma road.

I’m keen to get up there this Saturday and get a small job that has been bugging me done before headed through to the end.
I would like to install an ‘A’ frame under Rollercoaster bridge to remove the ‘bounce’ effect. It should only take 15 minutes or so

Once this is done we’ll bomb through to the end of The Green Mile and build a few essential berms along the way and trial the g-out to wallride.

I’d like to try and suss out the last 50m too as I’m not happy with it as I originally marked it out, more eyes the better I reckon.

Also, if anyone has a contact at Fulton Hogan or somewhere that does road surfacing I’d like to find out about putting some road surface on boards for the final stunt, so please forward any details.

Usual story…
From 10 till done
Bring food and water
Tools are stashed already
Any help is most welcome

Thanks heaps to Thomas, Dave, Ant and Micky for sterling effort on Saturday. We created several berms of varying degrees of radness, benched some sections that needed it, fluffed the Rocks of Doom a little, installed a couple of drains and extracted the essence of bounce out of the bridge at the end of the Rollercoaster.

I’ll try and get some pics and youtube a helmet cam video up soon so you get an idea of what’s going on.

The only bit remaining now is the last very short bit from the end of the log/wallride stunt to Burma Rd. we had a look around but still coming up short on cool options to finish the stage that aren’t just pinning it straight down the hill. I might have to enlist the help of Hamish ‘the super track creator’

Afternoon All

Hope ya’ll had an awesome long weekend doing cool stuff.

Doesn’t look like we’re gonna get much in the way of riding in this week with snow on Thursday n’ all

Saturday is looking good (if the forecast can be trusted this far out) for trail building if you’re keen.

Meet at the gate and ride in from there I reckon. Down Mackie Dackie track to Burma and go in the exit of The Green Mile.

The aim of the day would be to:
Mark out the outline of the logride/wallride with string & timber and do some quantity surveying
Work on the last 50m of trail (2 big berms and a few step downs).
Sort out the off camber corner earlier in the trail.

Time: 10:00
Bring: food, water

I’ll try and remember to take some photos of the stunts too and post them up on vorb and mbo websites

Morning All

After a very successful effort by Marcus, Mickey and Ant last Saturday we now have trail right out to Burma Road, thanks guys. Now I just need to build the log/wall ride and a wee bridge and drag them in.

This Saturday I’ll head up and start from the end and work back along the trails fluffing little bits that need it. The task list as I see it is:

Remove monster rock at end of Green Mile
Berm off camber corner
Work on the moist drop
Drain dip in Green Mile and after bridge
Fluff drainage before Valley of Skinnys
Take Alien sign out for repainting
Build up berm in stage 2
Nail and glue the 2 loose boards on the first boardwalk
Spray stumps with stuff

If there is anything else you feel needs work, please let me know.

If you’re keen to help I’ll be up there from 10 until I’m done. I’ll head down the Mackie Dackie track (see map in notice board) then in the end of the Green Mile.
I have tools in there.

Morning all
I’ve just ordered the bit and pieces required to finish the woodwork at the end of the Green Mile trail. I’ll pre-make as much as I can in the garage then haul it out in the 4wd.

I’m about 1/3 way through tyre-ing the boards for the log/wallride. I still need tyres so either drop them of at Bike Otago or email me.

This Saturday I’ll be headed up to do the drainage just before the Roller Coaster in The Third Place. From there I’ll head backwards along the trail and tidy small things up. Usual story in at 10 till I’m done.

Re: Whare Flat Trails

Postby G on Thu 26/Nov/09 3:33pm

Afternoon all

So the wood for the log/wall ride and bridges has been delivered. Elaine and I managed to finish almost half the long tyred-boards. I have some more tyres cut but I still need about 25 more tyres to finish the job. Drop them round to Bike Otago or the house. I’ll start the bridges tonight.

The plan for this Saturday is to move the bridges, poles and half rounds on site and start building the foundations of the stunt.

If you’re keen to help I’ll be there from 10. Just head in toward the head of the Green Mile (just down from the Surge Tank and Burma road junction)
Just found out I’ll have a key for Middle road gate to shorten the hauling…stoked
