Today James from the DoC came out and chainsaw'd some fallen logs off the new Hatupatu trail, we made good progress and got 3/4 of the way through the trail. Hopefully we will get the saw work finished off in the next few weeks, with the nights closing in we will probably switch our Weds dig evening to Sunday afternoon, more details as I get them.

Hatupatu dig night, the crew was down to just 4 of us, but we managed to wrestle 30 metres of benching out of the steep, native slopes. There was quite a thick root mat on the section we were digging, so we were quite happy with our progress

Went out to look at Mossy track to finish it off today, but the PD crew has beaten me to it. Nice work guys.
As I was out there I cut back a few extra bits of buddleia that migh cause problems in the future so that it should be even slower growing back.

Did not manage to get out on the Hatupatu dig last night and have not caught up with the guys to see how they got on.
I did work on the 2nd jump on spleen alley on the jump track to make it slightly longer. I found that the dirt would not pack down properly i think this was due to a lack of moisture in the dirt, i bet i won't have to wait too long for that to be remedied. :)
last daylight saving shuttle tonight and the trails are in superb condition 10/10 see you out there!

Thanks, but the thanks needs to go to James the new Corners track adoptee. He has done a lot of good work through the third section of the track.
Now that Corners has an adoptee my attention has turned back to HH and LRRH (jump track, (i'm the adoptee)).
i will be getting it ready for when the weather turns and starts to rain, and work on some of the longer term projects that i have been putting off like building up cupped landings on some of the jumps and fixing up some of the berms.
I will also be starting to work on some of the other unadopted trails, with a focus on drainage over the winter.
trail conditions 10/10, starting to get dusty

Well done Gunna for clearing GG, i have not ridden that trail for quite a while now, might have to check it out.

yesterday cleared the roadside track that leads to mossy from the state highway, was a good couple of hours wrestling blackberry brambles with hedgetrimmer, its a lot clearer now, arm warmer friendly.

Went out friday for a trail inspection ;)
Thought I would bag myself a little ride and check out one of the items that was posted as a to-do.
The fallen tree is on Creek track the tree has split quite high up. Some of the branches could be cleared easily enough, but there may be safety issue and I am not sure how to progress with this one, so I will take advice on this. It might be a job for the Timberlands contractors

Cheers Andrew, sorry couldn't make it on saturday, but fly fishing the Tongariro and 3 days with old school mates was a little more sedate (apart from the hangovers) :)

We have had a little bit of rain which has been most welcome from a trail building/maintenance perspective. It was starting to get a little dry and dusty out there, should be perfect for the Easter weekend.

I have decided that you should leave it there. :) It is the only time that I can get in front of my uberfit riding partners (for some reason they freak out about that tree and go slow all the way down the bit of descent). It then takes them the next 4KM's to catch up.

There may be safety reasons for taking that tree down, I would not want to remove anyones strategic advantage unnecessarily though. ;)
Riding has been supreme this weekend, trail conditions 10/10 just starting to get dusty again.
lots of people on the trails, lots of out of town visitors, lots of smiling faces. Nice.
School holidays for next 2 weeks, shuttle running every day looks like an opportunity for mixing some trail work with riding methinks... :)
Should clear the last remaining logs on Hatupatu this week, thanks to DoC.
