Was not able to get out to the Corners race yesterday, but did get out to help at the Jump track race today. Great event, I love the laid back atmospere of club races. Good work Dave(s)
Mike From BC put together a blistering 5:40 run to take the win.
Dave H mentioned a new race being added to the calender this year, keep an eye on the Rotorua club website for details.
Trail conditions 9/10 fantastic!

Mark, how is responsible for clearing fallen trees on the trails??

There is a tree fallen on the ball and chain trail, I presume people know, but just wondering who takes care of such things??

At the moment Castle corp via Timberlands and there are a couple of club members that have their chainsaw tickets.
I hope to take my chainsaw ticket soon, Waiariki Forestry school is running a course for club members.
(Another great benefit for being a club member).
I will forward the information of the downed tree to who i think is the right person.
Many thanks.

I can only marvel at the skill and commitment required by the Rotorua track makers. Corners track especially must have taken hundreds if not thousands of man hours to date. It is with this in mind that I enter my humble request. Could somebody please have a look at "The Dipper" in particular the last 100 to 200 meters before the dip. The pot holes there are getting out of control now. Also there is a tree down at the hairpin corner at the bottom of the hill on I think it is the first part of creek (or it might be the second part of Tahi). It doesn't worry me but both my elderly riding partners have managed to tangle themselves up in that one.

Thanks in advance

The tree down is on the first section of creek (at the bottom of the rutted descent), before you cross the creek

An historic moment for the Spadewerx Trail maintenance project, I have my first sponsor. :)
Mike and Rob at Bike Culture have provided me with some funding to assist me whilst I am maintaining the Whakarewarewa trails, Thanks guys!
Please support the Businesses who are supporting our trails.http://www.bikeculture.co.nz/
This is an exciting time for me as there are some other businesses that have said they are interested in contributing to the project.

Weds night, Hatupatu dig night. We got some more benching done in some of the gnarlier spots, covered some good ground. Next Tuesday we have a DoC guy coming in with us to chainsaw some fallen dead logs.
Good progress...

Re: Whaka Forest To-do Maintenance List

Postby Spadewerx on Fri 20/Mar/09 6:15pm

Have not managed to get out much this week, so thought I would get out there this afternoon. The weather was great and seemed to be a good temperature to dig, so thats what I did. I have not done much maintenance on the trails that I adopt, so I thought I would do some work on Little Red Riding Huck.
First spot was the junction where Corners trail intersects, it is a very flat pumice corner and many riders are attracted to a skinny little tree on the exit. I have banked some good golden dirt up against it, not a proper berm more a little wedge, i'll see how it rides and shape it up from there.
Walked back up LRRH and there is a double which I can just about make (case). The double is on the exit of a pumice berm, so I fixed the berm up with some grippier golden dirt.
Then I looked at the 3 jumps that lead into the pumice berm and thought they could do with some work, on the last jump just I widened the take off slightly, then the second step down jump, I built up the landing.
Cant wait to check it out tomorrow and see how it rides.
If your riding LRRH, watch out for loose soil!
Trails are in pretty good condition 8/10 see you out there!

gold dirt should be loads grippier when it packs down

Rode both days this weekend exclusively on Corners and jumps to check out fridays handiwork.
I have been told that the 3 tabletop jumps are referred to as Spleen alley (guess why)
The work I did on the second Jump was to address overjumping the landing, unfortunately it has not helped instead it has only made the jump scarier (for me) :)
As i jumped over the new work it was easier to see the landing as I sailed well past it. :D
I stopped and watched quite a few riders overjump it. so it seems the jump needs to be made slightly longer (not taller) I will correct this some time this week.
Good news! the work on the berm after Spleen alley is pretty good and you carry much more speed through the turn. more confidence, less braking, now lets see if i can stop casing the double.

The clean up through Chinese and extension to Old Chevy are really well done. Not sure how much of this you've done Mark, but I've had loads of great feedback on the work.

RDC needs a permanent position for you.

I can't take credit for the work in Chinese or old Chev, that would be the trail adoptees or other volunteers. there are some great people out there quietly doing some fantastic work.
I just trying to make job out of it and am not so quiet ;)
