hey Mr B!

my knee is still giving me jip from riding riverhead on sunday and bashing it in last wednesday, so i'll be casual riding with my work buddies at 4pm and that might be about it, but if it feels ok i'll hang around and see you at 6-6.15! cool beans!

glad to hear you had a good ride Mr Bob, i'd left my phone at home so didnt get your message until i got back.

my knee is troubling me, on the road bike its fine, mainly because there is no twisting, on the MTB its fine under no pressure. As soon as i try and do anything , twinge twinge twinge, then aching all the next day....stupid knees! i want to be the 6,000,000 dollar man!!!

What are you doing twisting your knees on the bike??? If it's good on the roadie it should really be good on the mtb too unless you're killing it by doing mad hux ow...

dunno lisa :( it just seems to appear on the MTB,
I do tend to twist my feet a lot in the pedals, the "XT" labels on my cranks have worn off because of it....

standing up, moving around and doing little hops, bumpy downhills on the SPCA, maybe its the jarring action rather than twisting....

amazingly i did it last week on real casual ride and i wasnt looking where i was going n fell off - dufus!

I sometimes get a sore knee, I did think it was from griding big gears up the hills for too long, but I now believe it is caused on fast and/or rough descents, when I am standing on the pedals at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock, when I shift my weight back and my front leg gets locked out then I hit a bump.

Dented - don't lock your legs out!

GF - sounds like you want to focus on your pedaling technique/heel position. I used to wear through one crank too from riding with my heel pointed inwards. I had to consiously re-teach myself to keep my foot straight (it was only 1 side). It doesn't happen anymore.

You could look at the way your cleats are set up too - are they forcing your foot in the wrong angle? Are they straight? It may be worth angling them slightly to assist your heel slightly more out - I find this is a better position for climbing anyway.

And remember your body has a natural suspension system so make sure you use it well - keep relaxed, don't lock out your knees or elbows, don't fight the bike or terrain - just go with it.

become one with the bike :)

cleats are crank bros' candy's so they do allow plenty of free play inwards and outwards (and have no adjustments to stop this) , when i first went from pedals to clipins, my right foot (co-incidentally the same side that the knee is sore) , always wanted to move around and clip out and put down, caused me plenty of grief mentally while riding... ive been clipped in now for 12 months so its not that, but perhaps the damage to the knee is highlighting that there is still an issue with the foot position ....

your a post-demon today wgtngrl!!!!

In nutshell, yes. And ahhhh, I don't know how that happened

I have crank bros too - the super light egg beater styles  There sure is a heck of a lot of play, but cleat position will still make a difference to the angle your foot is at.

Wet/dry - makes no difference. Down hill, no worries, just ride on my toes for a bit if I have to (a la Dunedin race). Up hill, I need to work on that in pressure situations...
