Wanted Hardtail Mountain Bike

BIKE NEEDED IN CHCH:
I need a lightweight bike suitable for 5'9' female. It'll be a second bike for Port Hills, Hanmer, Bottle Lake and commuting etc. Has to be hardtail. No preferred brand but has to be reliable, safe, reasonably priced and in good condition. Nothing over $500 is needed. Thanks very much!

you can't really get quality soft tail bike with disc brakes that cheap, the only thing that cheap is a warehouse bike with mechanical discs that are less efficient than bb brakes, for your needs you would only need a hardtail, you could pick one up of trademe, something like a specialized hardrock, or specialized rockhopper

yea, and as the saying goes...Cheap, Light, Durable...pick any two. $500 dollars wont buy you a full sus worth pedelling anywhere. For that budget a hardtail really is the only option for something remotely reliable/durable.
