will keep an eye on that, tho, really only need the front. Frame is a 26, but fork is originally off a 29r.

ideally i'll want a Krampus front wheel, but they're not gonna be landed (as parts) til early next year probably.

I've just done the 96er to an XTC carbon frame, and my 07 Anthem.

Used a Reba on both occasions. Both Work best with 100mm of travel. 80mm too harsh, and 120mm travel steers like a chopper.

Why don't you just build a wheel ?

I've built all of mine, as it was the best way to get a reasonable front only.

Just remember to use a high flange hub.

Nice, I think you'll like the set up. Loving my El Chucho with the big-ass wheel up front. Build a wheel if you can, if you can't don't!

i've a rigid one...

yeah, thats why i'm asking for a rim or a wheel...
i build me own wheels too, with various degrees of success.. (like, my Alfine wheel seems to be breaking a spoke a week a the mo :( which is most annoying).
Just remember to use a high flange hub.

Good point...

Breaking a spoke a week sounds very annoying.

Straight gauge spokes being used ?

With a bit of extra weight like the Alfine hub, there would likely be a lot more force acting on the spokes, in the case of any sudden accelerations, like bumps etc.

yeah, straight guage DT spokes i think. Its weird when they break, sometimes there's no noticeable extra power on, or sometimes there is. there seems no rhyme nor reason for it. I've tried my best keeping all the tensions right...

I've got pretty quick at whipping the old one out and sliding a new one in, tensioning back up, probably less than 5 minutes. but, nonetheless, annoying.

2, 3, or 4 Cross lacing ?

Sheldon has some interesting thoughts on different spoke configurations for situations.

or talk to the Rohloff agent. Must have come across this issue occasionally..

2 cross, the most i can get into it, the flange being so damned big. the problem is at the hub end too, 's where they all snap, so i dont think its due to the angle of the spokes. maybe 1x would be better tho... hmmm, rebuild might be on the horizon.

I've heard of rohloffs breaking chainstays...

Are you stress-relieving the spokes enough?
If you are reusing an old hub and the spokes are now sitting not fully into the old groove they can get some big extra stress at the bend, someone will know what to do about that.

Butted spokes reduce fatigue from variation in tension, reduce the peak force, and unfortunately allow the wheel more sideways flex.

even on a new hub stress relieving is crucial - good old Jobst Brandt nails it (in his typically overly wordy style)

Have an as new roval aluminium 29er wheelset that doesn't fit my bike due to the rear hub. Could sell the front wheel to you.
