Wainuiomata Winter Weekender 6, 12 & 24hr Mtb

Postby Melissa_Theuriau on Mon 15/Feb/10 3:19pm

The Wainuiomata Winter Weekender is a brand new event that aims to draw the best and toughest of NZ’s endurance riders to experience the amazing network of trails being developed by the Wainuiomata Trail Project just north of Wellington City. The focus of the event is to provide a shakedown event/showcase for the Nz’ers racing at the 24hr solo worlds in Canberra later this year – however there are 12 and 6 hour categories as well as teams events for the less insane. The Wainuiomata Winter Weekender also hosts the unofficial NZ 24hr Solo Champs, with custom designed winners’ jerseys for the category winners.
This will be an ‘old skool’ event run purely for the benefit of the riders, run on the smell of an oily rag – any proceeds will be put towards the continuing trail project. Mud and silly grins guaranteed!
It will be held on the weekend of 22 May, running from mid day Saturday to mid day on Sunday. For further details and entry forms go to http://www.WWW24hr.co.nz

Very quiet here for what should be a very cool race on some tough and interesting trails. I'm looking forward to it anyway.

Newbie question... but can someone explain how this event works? I'm assuming it takes a short time (e.g. an hour) to do a lap of the race, and so is it a case of who ever does the most distance in that time wins?

As opposed to an event where there is some 20/40/50km trail and its the first person across the line who wins...

yes you are correct,

The laps will be about 7-8km, we are expecting the top riders to do about 1/2 hr laps.
The winner is the person(solo)/team who manages the most laps within the time allowed depending on catagory entered
any laps completed after said time (6 12 or 24hr) will not be counted

also if we get any equal number of laps, the fastest team/person to have completed the number laps will be deemed the winner

You're too generous Slackshanks. I'm sure it was a bit under a third of the way through.
