The track is to help carless Wainuiomartians escape the hole. At least thats my understanding ;)

Callum7,

the guys doing the work live in or around Wauinui, not maidstone or Makara. The bush they are building in is stunning in places and regenerating in others. There is also already some established riding in the area and the council is keen.

Tryfan,

Any plans for a midweek dig this week?

Wainuiomata is beautiful mate and is a REAL place - dont take on what others say but go walk in the bush covered hills or get yourself down to the coast and reveiw your thinking..?

We walked up from the church to the trail just after 9 - sorry we missed you if you came late.

Refer to direction given in this thread and 021 29 24 880 if you get lost.

Put in another 20-30 metres on Sat.

Tuesday 5pm at the church - spread the word - see you there.

Thanks for your ongoing support

I think Tryfan is a sexy man- beast and IMHO some of the best riding is in Wainuiomata, but you won't know that unless you get yourself out there. Chur.

Eighties Myth

Postby fantail on Wed 18/Oct/06 5:57pm

That is such an eighties myth! Shopping at the Waniu Wharehouse is just the same as shopping at the Wharehouse in any other NZ town...

Geographically Wainui ia an elevated basin that posts backyard temperatures of 34C in summer. In biodiversity terms it's an absolute jewel located in the middle of 3 Mainland Island conservation projects. The trail project currently runs through a kanuka/manuka area that skirts a wetland. Track builders have to dodge regionally scarce native fuscia trees and other natural treasures.

And, as an aside, the Wainui BMX club is currently building a BMX track to host the BMX Nationals, so Wainui definitely has cyclists in mind

Over 2000 folk have viewed this thread and STILL our working bee numbers hover around 2 and 3 unless the kids from school can be dragged away from there bikes and threatened with extra homework unless they DIG!!

The area where the tracks are going in is BREATHTAKING in places - fine bush, constantly changing, lush smelling, views of Wainui and the Orongorongas..

there is a hole bunch of track already, but plenty more still to bench, all flowy and good...

WE NEED your HELP...

Want to try and get this 2 way trail wrapped up before Christmas.

Next dig tuesday 24th oct 5pm by church.

(Am away riding Nydia track this weekend..)

Also - check out the new 'luge berms' that our cartaker has put in to our wee little downhill - Bee line..

Hickie - your s bend rides real good by the way.. your a natural!

Thanks also ASDF for the sweat and the 30 metres that went in on tuesday night..

spread the word..

(Thanks - T)
