No, I just hadn't thought about this thread until I reread it last night. I just thought John and other interested people might not have seen my blog post on it...

I guy called Frank ? has set it up. He does frame building with his son.

He’s got a really good collection of classic roadies – Moser, TI Raleigh etc.
He’s a nice guy who really knows his onions
I wish them well :)

Was he wearing one on his belt?
Because that was the style back in the day.

Cool. I actually went back to page 1 after I made the above post, quite interesting. Then I stumbled upon JohnL's post, then assumed you had probably done exactly the same thing. Great minds, and all that ;)

Dredge

I'm hoping the wise and beneficent vorbii will be able to shed some light on an old bike my hubby got given today. It's a l'esprit and is possible 25 to 30 years old. Steel frame, shimano brakes. Wanting to know if it's worth tarting up. Seems quite pretty under the hideous 80's Yak and Bauer stickers that a foolish child stuck all over it years ago.

Cheers

I recall L'Esprit frames being sold in the shop I worked in around 1981-82, and I think they were lower mid-level quality Japanese mass-produced framesets usually built up bespoke to fit somewhere in between the Morrison Monark and a 531 Carlton or Raleigh.

The old "lower mid-level quality" - interesting price point :eh:

Use your brain. I meant it's not low end like a gas-pipe frame, but it's not mid-range either which in that era was 531 plain gauge type frames. It's most likely reasonable quality hi-tensile steel rather than anything cro-mo. Ergo, it's at the low end of mid range. Is that clear enough for you to grasp?

Frank Clavis. New Zealand BMX pioneer, he used to build PANTHA bikes back in the day, owns the Bosomworth name, has been building them since Eddie got sick. Certainly knows his stuff.
