There is about 100 holes in the big chainring still to be painted. I will have to be really bored to start on that...

In my track-lurking days, 1988 on, I seem to recall a lot more Laurie Dawes than Renowns.

It was the customers choice as to which they wanted the bike stickered as.
From memory they originally started doing Renowns as complete bikes with build kits from 10 Speed Drive.
I'm not sure what age my Renown frame is as I haven't been able to find anyone that can reliably age it for me, I guess from the 50's but I may have to go see Wayne Thorpe and see if he can shed some light on it for me. I'm not really into bikes this age normally, preferring racing bikes from the late 60's on but this I really liked because of the paint detailing, something of a lost art I suspect.

Yep, its great to see something like your Renown that has not been got at by a 16 year old with a spraycan.
I'd be keen to hear what Thorpie had to say.

Thanks for all the posts re the Renown and especially to Oli for putting it out on vorb for me. In answer to a couple of the questions there is no frame number (that I've found) and the bike is on the West Coast. It was owned by Barry Lewis. Barry had some nice bikes - including a Raleigh Team fixed wheel and a Gios which Oli tells me is made by Vitus. I spoke to an old riding buddy of Barry's today but I wasn't able to find out whether he purchased it new or got it second hand. If it was second hand maybe Mark Lucas owned it as he has been Coast based.

I'm after a bit more feedback - if I have it restored do I have to keep the colours original? The paint job doesn't do much for me.

Yeah, new owners though so need to be a bit careful on how much time I spend doing non work related things, I had a look at your blog too by the way, nice.

Why not leave it alone?
The paint is in OK conditiuon, and it is original. If you 'restore' it, all you have is another repainted track bike.

Is this where the Roadie Porn thread is now.

But with a more 'natural look' than before.
