Bike Repair Questions

Postby Solon on Mon 26/Mar/07 12:27am

Hey, ive been having trouble with my disc brakes rubbing. My back wheel pretty much cannot spin on its own without rubbing on both sides. i dont understand how this happened, and i dont really know how to fix it. ive tried messing with some of the alan keys on both ends of the brake housing and using a flathead to try to make the brake area larger. Nothing has really worked so if anone has some advice for me, before i peddle it up a long hill really slowly .

thanks

Sounds like your disc is bent...

If it's hydro, and rubbing both sides at once then your pistons are over extended. You can normally fix that by taking the wheel off, shoving something like a thin chissel or beefy flathead screw driver in tehre, and levering the pistons apart. It might take quite a bit of levering before they sit back where they should be.

Be careful not to bend the bracket that the calipers mount to.
