Forest Access Permit Rules

No weekly notification of access will be posted here- Members with a Permit will recieve weekly emails re access & closed areas, contact a committee member if you don't get these emails.

GENERAL ACCESS RULES

Club Members can purchase a permit for $5. (membership fee til Aug 2010 $25 Single $35 Couple $45 Family).
Permit holders can enter areas of Ashley, Okuku & Mt Thomas forests as notified here &/or by email from the Club. They can take 5 guests with them but must ride together at all times within the forests. If entering at Whiterock park cars clear of the farm at the intersection of Okuku Pass Rd. Avoid spooking stock along the farm section of Horsford Downs Rd.
Some side roads exit the forests onto private farm land (eg Barwell Mission Downs & Satellite) - We do not have acces across any of these private raods outside the forests.

Despite what you read here ALWAYS TREAT ALL FOREST ROADS AS YOU WOULD PUBLIC ROADS - EXPECT TO MEET MOVING VEHICLES ANYWHERE - ANYTIME.

You must also observe all signs within the forest. Sections of roads may be closed by the use of signs or tape.

A Permit for INDIVIDUAL Access confers upon you some INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY. If you choose to ride alone make sure someone knows where you are going & an ETA home / out of the forest. A good idea is to notify your intended route to your "Search And Rescue Watch" friend & contact them again when out of the forest. That way if you fail to make it home they look for you in the apropriate area.

Each Permit holder must check their email (as currently held by the Club) BEFORE ENTERING THE FORESTS.


Below are the conditions agreed by Permit holders in addition to the conditions on the Permit

North Canterbury Cycling Club / Matariki Forests Ltd Access Permit Register
This register lists Club Members who have agreed to the following set of access rules in order to gain entry to Matariki’s three North Canterbury Forests. These members are issued with an access Permit & map of local forests. This Permit must be carried when cycling within Ashley, Okuku & Mt Thomas Forests.
The Club will, from time to time, notifiy members of areas which are available &/or off limits for riding. By signing this register each members agrees to the following and all conditions listed of the Permit.

Access ONLY 5pm -11pm Mon- Fri / 1pm to 11pm Sat / Dawn to 11pm Sun.
Saturday morning ONLY as advised via email.
Riders must abide by Club rules & notified entry areas.
Check your email prior to entering the forest. Areas update weekly & closed areas may change daily.
Access is for Permit holder & 5 guests maximum.
Access is for cycling & running only - Take nothing out - Leave only sweat.
Keep Left at all times. Expect to see TRUCKS, dogs & hunters.
Be conspicuous with bright clothing, don’t wear pig/deer colours!
Report fires to 111 * Report emergencies to 111.
Contact NZPFS for emergency gate opening ($50 Fee) 0274809279.
No smoking or hunting permitted.
Permit holder agrees to discuss access rules with other cyclists.
Permit remains the property of NCCI.
Ride only on formed roads no bush-bashing.
Breach of any of the above or permit conditions can result in expulsion from Club.[b]

Regular ID/Permit checks are being carried out in Ashley, Okuku and Mt Thomas Forest.


It is important that you carry them at all times when riding in the Forests and be prepared to produce them on demand.


Your Committee has worked very hard on setting up the Permit system so your co-operation is essential to the continued access we now enjoy so much.
