Why is that? Farm animals are already profoundly altered in ways that make them more apt to be farmed. This seems like a logical next step.

I agree, selective breeding has been practised for probably thousands of years for our benefit why not use it to benefit our meals while they are alive?

thats what i've always thought too...

how would you contain animals that cant feel the pain of barbed wire or electric shocks? you'd have to spend way way more on your infrastructure, eating into the profits you're supposedly getting by farming in a 'painful' manner.
