Someone else has said Jenner's wife is French and he was racing as a Frog that year.

Not TdF, but Paul Jesson won a stage of the Vuelta in about 1979-80

Jenner's wife is New Caledonian but don't know about the second bit.

This history site http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/timeline&new_date=12/07 says he is the only Kiwi to have won a stage and also that Roulston has equalled Eric McKenzie's effort in the "early-1980s". Gordio says elsewhere it was a stage to Le Havre in 1983.

I've seen the trophy - it is now used as the Pegasus cyclist of the year trophy, he must have donated it. I saw it when Bill won it. Closest I'll ever get to one of those damn things!

He did in 2001. Officially listed as a Kiwi that year although he did race under a French licence for a couple of years early in his career to boost his chances of being selected for big races (Frenchies were favoured over foreigners).

Phil Liggett was careful to describe Roly as headed for New Zealand's highest "individual" stage placing at the Tour.

You're right Tugboat. Jenner is listed on the official tour site as a NZer in 2001. I noticed on two others that I looked at - BBC Sport and Cyclingnews.com - he was in their team lists as French but Kiwi on the one that matters.

Just watched it on tv3.co.nz Was a good article. Seems to be pretty level headed, but pleased with how his tour has been going (as you would).
