Who Will Be The First Mega Mayor Of Mega Auckland?

Postby Tama on Tue 7/Apr/09 3:08pm

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/2321006 ... esentation wrote:Auckland will become a single super city by October next year.

Prime Minister John Key announced today it will be led by a "regional mayor with governance powers".

In a departure from the Royal Commission the government has refused to accept special seats on the council for Maori.

Mr Key said the government rejected Maori seats saying Maori representation should be across the region and "not to have token representation" that can be voted down.

He said the government wanted to look at a way in which the increasing Pacific Island population and Chinese and Indians could also be better represented.

Local Government Minister Rodney Hide agreed the new super council would be formed very quickly.

"We need to act decisively so as to remove the doubts and uncertainties without decisions," Mr Hide said,

The new mayor will be elected in October next year for a three year term.

Whats the point? We'll either have 7 people endlessly bitching about the motorways and how the rest of the country doesn't respect Auckland enough or we'll have 1 person doing the same amount of endless bitching as the 7 previous people combined used to do about the motorways and how the rest of the country doesn't respect Auckland enough.

So I say go for either Kyle Chapman or Winnie the Peters. Either would be pretty funny on account of how they'd spazz about how many immigrants there are in Auckland.

Fuhrer Banks ftw

I don't know, I hope some stupid celebrity doesn't win off name recognition alone.

Any thoughts from any one on weather it will generate a higher rate of participation? Is it something big enough to justify setting up polling booths, rather than postal ballots which end up in the recycling bin?
