How Much Chutney Did You Make This Summer?

Postby Tama on Tue 17/Mar/09 9:19am

I've noticed that making chutney seems to have become remarkably fashionable of late. Which is a bugger as we've got jar loads of the stuff and damned if I can work out how we're going to get through them all in time for next summer.

My best one so far has been pear chutney but my "fruit medley" (everything leftover before it went off) is quite good too - if I do say myself :p

I made a feijoa chutney last year that was YUM!!!!!!!!!!!! We used it in sandwiches mainly... And Jim made some tomato chutney that we now have some of in our fridge - and that's yum too :) (Made from tomatoes we grew this year!)

I will definitely be making more feijoa chutney once they come into season!!

Are you suggesting I'm putting off writing some particularly mindbending code by starting mindbending threads? :eh:

Me and the MRS made spicy plum chutney..Mainly used toasted sammies or left over cold meat...But is equally good on corn fritters.

Relish? we've put down some relish...

and pickled walnuts,

and marmalade.

and i got a fair few jars of honey off my bees...

and our chooks are still producing an egg a day each... BONZA.

came home from holiday tho and there's two MASSIVE bloody Marrows sitting on my zucchini plants... blimmin housesitter doesnt realise food comes from a garden. tho, somehow, he ate ALL the eggs... musta been eating 2-3 a day!

anyone got ideas on what to do with fcuking marrows!? ugh. so over roasted/grilled whatever. i guess i could pickle them somehow. kinda make a marrow kimchi or something... hmmmmmmmmmmmm :hmmm:

I believe you can make a herbed seasoned mince mixture & stuff the marrow. Bake in the oven. Eat the mince & throw the marrow away. :)
