New To Wellington

Postby cold_fu5ion on Sun 25/Jan/09 9:33pm

Hi,

I'm new to Wellington (been here almost 2 months), I'm a BMXer but I'm looking into getting a hardtail mountain bike in the near future. I've set up camp in Newtown.

So I've spent a while today checking out the Vorb forums to see if I could find any new places to ride, I'm looking for some dirt jumps or a skate park with a box jump (something to jump!).
Here's the places I know of at the moment. Could anyone comment on the ride-a-bility of these places for a BMXer?

Island Bay/Adelaide Rd park - been here quite a few times
Waitangi Skatepark - been here too
Porirua Skatepark - I have seen this from the road but haven't checked it out yet, any good?

Places I've found on Vorb today (please comment on openness to new people :-) ):

Turby King dirt jumps - http://www.wises.co.nz/l/Wellington/Mel ... v/6wsmp/0/
Karori BMX track - Not sure what street this is on though....
Maclister park - http://www.zoomin.co.nz/map/nz/wellingt ... ark+place/

I also saw mention of some dirt jumps in Island Bay, anyone know the details on these? Also if anyone is working on or planning to be making BMX friendly jumps in Wellington I'm more than happy to purchase a spade and help out. I've built jumps in the past but that was a few years ago now.

Any info would be great,
Thanks.

Karori BMX tracks is at the bottom of Old Karori Rd at the intersection with the road that heads out to Otari/Wilton's Bush. Makara Peak Skills Area has a jump or two...

Hey you probably found all there is by now but, if you want 4 pretty decent table tops in a row go karitanie (in the bushes on the ridge line directly east from zoo front door). If you want some corners and some gaps to scare you go 4X track above the hockey stadiums in New Town.

Hi,
I'm coming in Wellington in september I have already seen the skateparks but I would like to know if there is any Trails/Dirt Jumps around wellington.
Is it possible to have some photos of the jumps in Karori Park, and if you need some help to dig I'll be here.

Here's what we made with some friends (in France)
