gonna do a ride around the miramar hills after if anyone wants to see somfin differant, note im going to be practicing some braking skills in a few ashphelt loactions so i would recommend abald tyre if anyone wants to join in.

Great - looking forward to it. Looking forward to getting a few more folks along to this side of the reserve to see what's being down in the 'DH' side of things. Hopefully we can get some decent amount of track built and even more cleared to cut down on the amount of 'straight line descent' that has to go on right now!

I'll make sure all the tools are there for 10am. Weather is looking pretty good for Sunday.

For those of you who haven't come along and helped on 'Jail Brake' before here is the meeting spot, it's across the road and up slightly from the Miramar Rangers Clubrooms.

If you are late, just look behind the bus shelter under the trees for the end of the track, once you've found that you just head on up, can't miss us.

sun seems to be shining
should be a good day to build berms

if anyone is coming bring some old gloves as moving rockes can be quite abrassive on riding gloves.

Hi All,

A big thanks to Liam, Mike, Ricky, Paul, Darren, Phil, Josh, Grant and Ben who made it along on Sunday and managed to get three corners finished on Jail Brake along with the bits in between. Great day for it and very cool to see this new track take shape. We'll probably spend a couple more work parties in there before we move the tools back over to the new extension on Conviction.

I'll post some photos later,

Hi All -

This week we are going to be doing things slightly differently and having a work party on Saturday. We are going to be working from 12pm to 4pm and we'll be back onto Jail Brake, our descending / downhill track, continuing to build it from the bottom on up.

If you haven't come along to check out this new track be sure to, it's a lot of fun and is fine to ride from the top in a pick-your-own-line kind of way.

Next week the kind folks at BNZ are going to be doing a work party on Conviction, helping create a whole lot of benching for the new diversion we are putting in. They will be in there on Wednesday as part of their 'Closed for Good' day of volunteering. Thanks BNZ!

Bump - Ricky and I just cleared a bunch of track ready to be benched by the BNZers on Wednesday. Looking forward to getting out onto Jail Brake tomorrow, kinda hoping it is not going to end up being just Grant and I (most of the regulars are away this weekend...).

If you've been meaning to make it along but haven't made it yet (you know who you are ;-) ) tomorrow is your day!

Thanks to everyone who made it along this afternoon to help with the dig. Jim, Josh, Ben, Guy, Chris and Grant. One corner 'finished' and another started along with some benching below the rock drop / jump.

Work Party This Sunday

Postby benw on Sat 7/Nov/09 12:02pm

Hi All -

We'll be doing another work party on Conviction from 10am on Sunday, hope to see you along.

The plan is to continue the great work that the BNZ did on Wednesday on the new section of Conviction. The BNZ team, as part of the 'Closed for Good' day of volunteering dug us 80m of new bench which is a stellar effort. So a huge thanks to Paul, Graeme and the rest of the BNZ crew. Dodgy iPhone photos of the new section below.

Come along tomorrow from 10am and check out the awesome progress,

Bump -

See you down there from 10am, nice day for it with the previously forecast rain no where to be seen. Cloudy with sunny breaks :-).

Ricky will be carrying on cutting more of the new line for us to bench. We'll likely be there for a couple of hours until around 12pm. Hope to see you out.

If you are not sure where to come, head up the main track (Conviction) until you see a notice on the ground pointing you in the right direction! Or txt on 021 845 991.

ciao

Thanks to Paul, Ben (+ Owen, Brynn & Sasha), Liam, Tony, Ricky, Darren (+ Conner) and Shannon. We managed to get a good section of benching done on the new section of Conviction as well as getting that first switch back finished off.

All going according to plan we'll be back there next Sunday working on the next two switch backs, 2-3 more work parties and some evenings and we should be done on this section!

Did a walk through with Dave Halliday from the WCC this afternoon to review some of our progress, I hadn't realized but he had contractors come in and clear out the lookout area that is off of Conviction. Earlier the WCC tree team had dropped a big pine, contractors have now cleared the area for us, looking great. Nice spot for sit down / lunch / picnic with great views. Needs to be planted out with some native grasses and WCC will arrange some 'furniture' (a picnic table and the like). Not going to volunteer to carry that in :-)

Great stuff, that would explain the improvements made down by the fallen trees too.

Cheers WCC :)

3 more big switchbacks and 80-100 meters of bench to do and we won't have to worry about those trees needing to be trimmed again as they make their slow progress down the hill.
