Hmmm might have to dig the running shoes out of the bottom of the closet and give this a nudge.

If I get in early I might be top of the run or mtbike list for a short while!!

(I dont have a road bike - and so might not give that one a nudge).

I think the road bike is a bit irrelevant anyway as a direct comparison, but interesting all the same

yep - even on full sprint down bowenvale ave there's no getting away from the fact you're spending a good few min going in the wrong direction

really should be same course for mtb/run though - there's too many shortcuts you can take on foot - maybe times up 'old' bowenvale to to summit rd (top of huntsbury) and times up vic park itself (via the big 4wd track)

personally my moneys on the runner - either route has too many bits where it's bottom gear grovelling (wheras up rapaki a mtb always wins due to the low gradient middle section where you can wind it up)

glad I'm not the only one doing 'bottom gear grovelling' up there
would be interesting to see others' times.
if there's a strong bias to one or the other on bowenvale/rapaki maybe Mt Vernon farm track be more equal..?

Nah - I reckon old bowenvale - mt vernon you can definitely ride faster than run, cos after the first bit the rest is lower angle

wheras on old bowenvale the steep 4wd track plus techy switchbacks lower down will make for a very level playing field

go ask Owen how much he loves riding up old Bowenvale in the wet ;)

so what is old bowenvale, is that up the other side of the spur?, joiing the 'spray track', then mixture of MTB single track and 4WD track up to the Huntsbury track?
If this is the case then would that be using the new MTB track in the lower sections?

hmmm.

Maybe Mt Vernon farm park track but all the way up to the summit, Once you get past Summit rd it gets pretty hard...I have only been able to clear it on my bike a couple of times...It is a bit longer than up through Bowenvale Valley I think?

yep - 'old bowenvale' is the one that starts about 200m from the bottom gate onto bowenvale ave - you'd definitely want to use the 'new' wiggly bits, whilst it's more distance it's much easier to get clean

basically what's used for the summer hill climb series

gulp - direct up to the true summit via the goat track? That's mental on foot - getting a bike up that is legendary!

spose you also ride the walking track off the summit down the western side (the one with the interesting penalties for failure)
