Welly Road Climbing Times

Postby OliverBendix on Sun 23/Dec/07 2:12pm

Because I'm jealous of the ChCh roadies' hill climbing times thread, I timed myself up Blue Mountains road this morning. 9:10 from the give way sign at the bottom - corner of Pinehaven Rd. and Blue Mountains Rd. - to the community noticeboard at the top. We'll see how that changes - if I can improve it or if I get too fat over Christmas!

There should be heaps of people going quicker than a lackadaisical 30 year old lapsed runner up there - what are your times? Post any other climbs you've done in the region too.

I think this is the only hill I have an accurate time for - best is 9.43. That was a nice day :) Nearly 2 months ago, haven't done a hard effort up there since.

There should be heaps of people going quicker than a girl ;)

(maybe I should sneak in a timed all-out effort with the race wheels before I give them back)

I've only ever ridden up there once, half way through round four of the Balfour Pennington. It was a nice climb :)

I share your sentiment about the Chch road threads

I don't think 9 minute climbs should be counted...
Choose a 15-20 minute climb (something decent) and use that :)

for some reason (possibly embarrassment) I can't remember my times to the sign, but I have done 11 flat to the crossroads from teh giveway sign

Pffffft.
Clearly you've never ridden with me.

...it'd be closer to 20 minutes up, 15 minutes down :)

hmm dunno about blue mountains, i never remember markers climbing up there

only one climb i can accurately remember is the climb into karori up makara hill. from the road sign at the bottom to the sign at the top. my best this season is 7:40

we should pick a decent length climb like akas.. from the gate to the summit? although that might be a bit short, want a decent 15-20min..

although a nasty climb like moonshine reverse might a good one to time.

Yeah, there seemed a few options for a starting and finishing point so I picked two I thought would be easy to describe.

Cool thread! Interesting learning about the Welly Hills etc.
15minutes bike and I've got a nice 450m high one with killer gradients down here in the ChCh...
No wonder I've only done it once in the last 6months
