i feel your pain about traffic lights, my little group of 5 got three reds in the last k, at the ones right before the hospital some guy got sick of waiting so he just went off, with a "he'll get dq'd from the marshall" :p

also did the Hospi ride today, after busting my gut trying to get up to good group as i started mid pack, then getting dropped from the second group on the first climb and putting in a lot of effort to catch back up to them i somehow ended up with 10th in1:33 or so :hmmm: , i dont know where all the riders ahead of me disappeared to as i dont remember dropping that many on the brooklyn hill !

Left the city with a solid overcast, nor'easter and quite cool. Arm warmers and knee warmers on, gilet. Got out to Greenpark and the sun was shining and Ellesmere road lumpy. Staunch NE head wind up Gebbies Valley. Up Dyers Road from Governors Bay. Get used to it. Might be a while before we get Dyers or the Bastard back. Rode along the summit to Rapaki. Turned at the road closure and headed home via the Kiwi. A few rocks on the road just to remind us. Theres a sign at the top of Vic park saying the tracks are open but the Bowenvale 4wd track exit is closed. Not too many takers today.

Also did the hospi ride today, after the usual rolling start through tawa we hit glenside road and thought I would test out the lead bunch so gave it a little gas, checked back and no one wanted to join me so kept it in the dog up ironsides and around makara, got held up a tad with traffic but nothing major, headed up makara hill still solo, did a reasonable time up there despite the head wind.
On through karori I was praying for green lights and luckily that all panned out, so up and over aro valley and got stopped at the Brooklyn lights for what felt like 20minutes.

Onwards down happy valley road and around through island bay with no sign of any chasers and hit another red just before the hospital then down home straight FTW.

Very pleased with my solo jaunt, kept a nice tempo going, and despite the 2 traffic light stops was about a minute quicker than the last time i rode this 2 years ago, 1:24:16 this year.

I loved my personal escort of a car and 2 harleys.
Plus tons of cheering volunteers. !

on the ride back I got EVERY set of lights across town & down Willis St, was so fed up I thought I'd go along Lamton Quay just to get some more....and I did. I was sooo pleased to get past them all, only to have several near(ish) misses from weekend shoppers with trailers on the cycle way. I guess I'm pleased I wasn't in a hurry. :( :)

Few snaps. One a few days ago looking down into the Manawaturd from the edge of the Rangitiki district. Another of today's ride up Nth Range rd looking back down onto the P Track past an old tractor. Third of sparkly clean bike after a bath.

HOSPI Ride
Great ride. Great weather. Only struck a couple of red lights which were good for a rest anyway.
You just have to factor in a couple of minutes for red lights and accept this before you cross the start line.
It was fantastic having only a 10 minute commute to the start line. :)
I hope the numbers participating keep growing.
In the afternoon watched Exodus Team Wellington get beaten by Auckland City (0-2) which was not so good. :(

Theres a sign at the Kiwi says "Road Closed Ahead". And there are some cones across the road. Consequently there are no cars on the next section. Makes for a nice ride out to Coopers Knob or the other way as far as Rapaki.

Set out early this morning to possibly ride an epic right around our fair region, but called it quits after 110km as I knew I was facing a long haul home into a blustery northerly, so I guess you could say it was an epic fail, or at least a failed epic.

Paraparaumu, Johnsonville, Ironside Rd, Makara, Karori, Aro Valley, Brooklyn, South Coast, All the bays and back to the Welly station. 110km 4.5 hours with just short of a k worth of climbing. Heading around the bays was pretty rough into the northerly. I'm pretty happy with the result though, it was a pretty tough ride. I was still feeling pretty good which was probably the best thing, but with some stuff going on at home my heart was really in getting back, rather than turning the ride into a true epic. Was kind of hoping the expected southerly may have arrived early.

Feel like I'll be up to the country road. Hoping to get in the Apiti loop later in the week, depending on work and home needs.

Double ride day . . . 80 minutes this morning 37 km, steady flat ride. This evening GCC smash fest (smashed) 32 km race with another hill top finish, ride out and back 62 km. Handicapped, scratchies rode to mid pack, only faultered due to waiting for one of "us" who had some drive line issues on lap 2, gave up all our hard fought gains. Stay together no matter what eh!

Caught break at the base of the climb.

Feeling decidedly 2nd hand tonight, the only race in 2 years and probably 90 club races where I had to have a wee sit on! Much to the shock of thekiwi!

Big training load Wednesday Thursday Saturday and Sunday . . . . looking forward to Friday sleeping and eating day and it is only Tuesday!

:p

Oldschooled mah black ass out to the top of Saddle Rd and back home on my Shogun. Felt pretty good considering I'm coming off a cold. Was even able to hold onto back of a dude on a crabon bike with crabon wheels for quite a distance - at 100% health I'd be able to hold onto the bunch on the flat I reckon... :paranoid:

Sounds like a good work out !
Re the makara hill times - is there an official start/finish line for timing purposes ?

Start = telephone pole directly outside the church.
Finish is (was...) marked on the road, but also is directly beneath a wire what runs across the road.

yup, finish still marked in black on the road, also a 200m marker. The odd thing is till I saw that I always thought the finish was further up. Could have got a few more seconds off my time out of that.

Double day today.
3 x 10 mins of 15sec on/ 15 sec off as well as some high cadence sprints on the trainer this morning. Was good as had Toni as well as young Carl from next door join me in the shed for the first hour. Good when you can get the neighbours involved in your lunacy.

2 hrs this afternoon tempo ride with some 5 min bursts.
