It's the first time he's ever turned up like that, and only after I'd just resigned. I'd say more likely a case of him just being a bit of a twat wanting to have a swing at me.

He couldn't really "fire" me now - I just quit. He'd need a reason, I've given him no sufficient reasons. Calling him a cunzor while he was being a cunzor isn't insubordination, it's truth-telling. He'd still have to pay all the holiday pay. And I could start my new job any time I want. Although to be honest I could do with a day or two between jobs to settle into a new town.

I'm the highest estimator/charger of fees by a big margin at the clinic, and I see almost the most patients by virtue of working days every second weekend. I can do an epic workload, so long as I don't need to do much surgery as I'm a slow-as-fuck perfectionist surgeon.

Yeah - my sister and I both work in medical fields, and have both have professionalism-induced anxiety. It's hella good for the patients, not so good for us. Generally at the end of the day when I have time/the sufficient urine to take a piss it's a dark brown colour. I often don't eat for 14+ hours straight, then eat 3000 calories within about ten minutes of getting home. It is a poor lifestyle choice.

I've seen the Raiders play in the snow more times than the Hurricanes.
Ergo, Canberra is colder than Welly.

I know he's had big financial problems. His own fault - spends too much on gadgets, shitty at stock control (when I started I always asked what to do with perfectly useful consumables that'd been opened, only to get a "meh, throw it away"), terrible at writing his own notes/billing his own patients but aggressive at observing what other people are writing in their notes/billing for. Buy's a $10,000 doo-dad (a tonometer - specialist ophthalmic equipment, wasted on vets who aside from me don't know the first thing about using an ophthalmoscope) but won't buy ~$1,300 fluid pumps. Despite a lack of fluid pumps putting patients at risk of death.

...I just dunno what goes on inside some peoples heads. I mean, I'm certifiably insane (ride a bike in Sydney, on venlafaxine and valium and the Doc offered to up the venlafaxine dose to MAXIMUM POWAAARRR) but at least I can take care of my patients, whilst billing for their care appropriately, and professionally writing down what that care was, and not requiring vastly costly doohickeys at the expense of basic equipment.

His name is Popeye
(this is also one of the more tame photos I have of him......he tends to shy at everything (even at 25yo :hmmm: ) and with his walleye, it looks like his eyes are out on stalks half the time)

I know.

Of course I know. I treat kidney disease all the time.

It's a common thing to have happen in medical professions apparently. I always have a bottle of either water or something around... but it can easily get forgotten about for hours when there's patients to tend to :( sometimes I take a gulp only when my mouth is real dry. I try to pre-hydrate by downing 1.5l before I kick off, but that much can make you feel quite sick. And running around all day you easily lose that much.

I should put myself on a drip - I could stick a catheter into my leg, run a line up the inside of my pants and tape a bag of fluids to my chest.

The good news kidneys-wise is generally they can cope with a bit of a short-term thrashing and are just fine. Their whole point of their existence is concentrating fluids/balancing electrolytes (plus countless other magic things of course, like making EPO), and mine do a bang up job of it (at this time....) of course a Vorber just had his fail for no apparent reason so I know nobody's safe :paranoid: and I ought to take better care of mine, despite their apparent magical powers :paranoid:
