A few years back I bought myself an MR2, and to celebrate went for a motor along the Rumutakas. I think that car had an artifically high amount of stiffness built into the front end to make it feel responsive and sporty, and to delay the onset of big tail skidz.

Anyway as I got used to the car I started to motor along pretty briskly, and had an entertaining sprint in the company of a 4wd Porsche. I let him go in the wet, and caught up when the rain stopped.
A problem with a car like that was mostly the low seating position, it meant a lot of the road was out of sight, or I could not spot bumps and holes until they were way close.

I did not overstep the mark, and found that car lots of fun to drive. Like many cars it was quite pitch sensitive, so a steady progressive right foot was essential.

Steered with a bit of care and smoothness it could be driven very hard, far too quickly to be legal!. I did enjoy the ability to use full throttle in first gear on streaming wet roads, yay for mid engines.
It only let go on me once ow twice, and needed a very fast accurate hand to grab it and make it behave :-)

But I digress. ;)

Having said all of that, I think that Golfs are terrific cars
