Bb Compatability

Postby cep32 on Thu 4/Aug/16 10:57pm

My wife is struggling with the 30t chainring on her new 2016 giant reign 1 so I am after an option that lets her use a 28t. The current crankset is a sram x1 1000 which doesn't allow for direct mount chainrings. I am looking at a sram gx 1400 instead. Will this just directly replace her existing crank? Do I need to make sure the spindle length is correct?

I have tried asking the local bike shop but they can't give me a clear answer.

Cheers,
Chris

Yes. Gx 1400 will be a direct replacement provided it is a hxp crank

The BB was standardised years ago, they're all cross compatible.

Just to clarify though, not compatible with shimano...
...As I figured out recently when wanted to transfer a Hollotech II chainset to an old Truvativ equiped bike bike :(

Sounds like operator error.

Swap the non-drive bearing and they'll fit. :sneaky:

The dumb thing is that the Shimano square taper un-55 bb's (the better of the two that Shimano produce) work great. What was so wrong with square taper? I'll be reluctant to change from 'em on the bike that's got it. Stiff, quiet, simple and reliable... And $30.

Yup. Snapped an octolink, pulled a gxp off the spindle but never had an issue with a hollowtech 2
