Marzocchi Bomber Need Replacement

Postby crustyrusty on Mon 10/Aug/15 1:55pm

howzit! I have a cannondale prophet with marzocchi bombers, unsure what year but the ones with 20mm travel adjustment between i think 140-160mm? and they are pretty old, dont seem to be holding air pressure and need replaced. The bikes set up for all-mountain and i think these would have been good when they worked but im now looking for either the same forks or something similar. Any ideas what I should get? CHEERSS!

A rebuild might be worth looking at first it depending on how flogged out the guts/stanchions etc are.

Do you run them in the lower travel much? A rock shox pike is probably the go to at the moment but they are 15mm axle I would guess you have a 20mm axle so you would need to either convert it (if you hub is convertable) or get a new wheels/hub

Inless you're really REALLY keen on a new fork, you may be able to get your current ones rebuilt?

I had a pair of those on a 07 Kona Coiler, good forks but they were also really heavy. A new modern air fork would be about a pound lighter. X-Fusion could be worth a look if you want to keep the cost down. They get good reviews and have a travel adjustable model as well. The only problem could the axle size, if you are going from 20mm to 15mm.

So my first response to the original post was literally going to be:
[dougal]you need a mattock, son[/dougal]

But play nice on the first page etc etc

Will the frame take a tapered fork? Otherwise you might not ba able to find a replacement straight steerer.

If I remember rightly, the later ones were a 1.5" headset so he might be in luck.

If you don't have a tapered steerer there's a new old stock Nixon on Trademe with a 20mm axle.

It's not mine. But I have one of my own and we have full parts support.

Thanks for the replies! Have been looking into it and a rebuild seems not really worth it as im pretty sure some of the internals are pretty buggered, (also Marzocchi is closing down??? haha good time to go manitou). The bikes currently running an FSA Orbit Z 1.5 and stats from their website say:

- 1-1/8in, 36 degrees/ 45 degrees ACB
—For 55mm OD head tube
—For 1.5in sized head tube and 1-1/8in steerer

Anyone know if the manitou nixon on trade me might suit? - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =938945272

Again Cheers for the help!!
