Best Tyre Size And Model For Redwoods

Postby caniwi on Sun 28/Dec/14 10:50pm

Hi guys

Any feedback on which tires work well on dry trails in the Redwoods and what size is best? I do some shuttling and usually Grade 3/4 trails with a 140mm trail bike.

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers

Look at what the locals run there. Maxxis Ardent seems pretty popular in the dry, I find them a bit sketchy in the wet personally and since I run tubeless and can't be faffed changing tyres all the time run Maxxis Minion DHF which are my personal favourite all conditions tyre. Colin is right though, the dirt has such amazing traction that practically anything will work in the dry.

Unless it's a hard tail then it must be steel and 26"

What about size as in 2.1, 2.3 etc?

I have asked about which model of tire as I have ridden Kenda's there and they have not performed well.

Do whatever.

I've ridden a fully rigid on commuter slicks and v-brakes like a maniac all over that forest and I'm still alive.

I'm an equal opportunity cyclist, I've got 26, 27.5 and 29 in the shed.

I just happened to be riding a steel hard tail in Vegas this week.

I live n Rotorua, my trial bike currently has High Roller 2 in 2.3" on the front, and a 2.25" ardent on the rear. I have also ridden a-lot on a 2.4 Ardent front and a 2.2" Ikon on the rear. Both options work sweet IMHO
