New Zealand Postie Bikes

Postby dwgknz on Wed 12/Nov/14 7:32am

Have any of the NZ Post bikes ever had an end of life sale. Would be great to get one as a shopping bike. From what I can tell of the spec from driving behind them on racks:

- Reiker frame (with rear rack)
- Sturdy front rack
- Shimano IGH
- Some form of coaster brake
- Front shimano hydraulic brake
- Huslefelt cranks
- Front electric hub

I'd look like my Nanna riding it but it would carry a lot of stuff including kids.

BTW my Postie rides flatz with some mean looking pins.

The front electric hub is a very recent thing so might be a while before they are for sale used

And I think the hub is a Sram P5 IGH

:withstupid: I'm sure there was a link to one on here not that long ago; and a brief discussion about the merits of ownership. Maybe in the tardme thread? I had a quick search but couldn't find it.

Just knock a postie off their bike using your SUV* and steal the bike. rattle can it black for stealth. Bonus you get all that sweet sweet other peoples mail to look through.

This is unsafe. A SUV would bounce off a postie bike like a ping-pong ball off a hammer.

You can see roadies wobble as they pass posties because the postie bike distorts the earth's gravity field.

So that's why I've seen a few of the e-bikes round home.

Didn't know of the e bike trial but had seen the vehicles they had been trialling around the Hutt. Price wise, seems like a better idea

They were promised new bikes for years and years.... back when I was a postie.

Thus I susoect it wll be another 20 years unleds constant restructuring due to changing mail volumes provides an opportunity.

I work on Postie Bikes and know that after a year or two.. the frames and the odd part get send back to Riker Cycles for overall and repaint.
Than rebuild and sent back out for the years to come..
But with all the new E-Bike frames coming out there maybe a few older frames being sold?? or cut up for the price of the steel.
The New E-Bike Frameset are not at this time all builded as E-Bikes just designed to be turned into a E-Bike in the time to come...
