Top Gear Cycling Public Information Film

Postby Rik on Sun 23/Mar/14 8:56pm

Just watched the latest episode of Top Gear, with their efforts at a cycling public information film.

Wrong on so many levels, but I'm sorry, and may I be struck down by a storm of lightening components, but it made me lol.

Worked in Westminster City Hall (the building some of the scenes were filmed in) for 6 years, Westminster didn't care about cyclists, that's all Transport for London. Westminster got upset when TFL wanted space for Boris Bikes cause it stopped them from getting parking revenue! Surprised they allowed it to be filmed at all as they're very pro car. They even fought the congestion charge and the impact on parking revenue. Same thing with cycle lanes. The white headed guy was probably the most supportive in the whole company of it but mainly because it got his engineering team money or him awards and recognition.

Thought the whole bit on cyclist safety was a waste. Could've been a bit less pro-car. I had some hairy moments commuting and I didn't have to go into the west end just Victoria from the south west.

Anything TG does with Cyclists or Caravans will not favour those parties... you just have to watch and laugh.

I commuted across London for about 3 years but never felt as endangered as when I was riding round Wellington.
