Time For A Dropper!

Postby Riley-NZL on Sat 11/Jan/14 4:39pm

Finally got the $ together to buy a dropper post, just wondering what one to get? Looking the following:

2013 Fox DOSS
Thomson Elite Dropper Seat post (Price a bit on the high side)
KS Supernatural Remote Seatpost
KS Lev Seatpost
RockShox Reverb (Have to buy overseas, NZ prices are astronomical. Also sizes/options are limited)

Any recommendation? Also I understand the seatpost size and drop amount options, but what is the "Length", is that just it's height at max extension?

I've been running a LEV for about a year now.

Not issues at all. Would definitely buy again.

I like that the cable attaches to the static part of the post.

Local Lad Paul Jennings Kept breaking the head on his Lev, He is a bit of beast tho
I've had a reverb for 3 years now been rebuilt once.

After reading reviews on them all, pretty much came to same conclusion as you guys, the LEV.

Length is about ensuring you ha email enough seatpost in the frame to allow the seat to reach the correct height for pedalling. Buy too short and you could/will coozor your frame and your seatpost.

I'd expect that to be ok, but because the cable attaches to the less favoured moving part of the seatpost you get a loop of cable flopping about when you lower the seat. This can get fouled in the linkages on some bikes, and can be annoying if it is brushing against you legs.

And nobody want floppy cable fouling and touch all over the place.

Just curious, when you say breaking the head, do you mean "oh gosh my seat is slipping" or potential hospitalisation with internal injuries?

Early Reverb: had the guts replaced once and rebuilt twice and one new master cylinder (broke in a minor prang) over 2 years.

LEV now - no issues after nearly 12 months. Love the static remote mount.

I'd go for the LEV

As a thought, what about a dropper in a carbon XC bike?
