Laptop Graphics Card Is Borked...

...and it's one of those integrated mofos. Intel HD Graphics 3000 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0 (Whatever that means)

Given it's integrated, I'm thinking it's a chuck the motherboard and start again scenario, but I DON'T WANNA. Is there any alternatives out there apart from buying a new laptop?

Still under warranty?

If not just get a new one, MB swap in a a laptop is ugly even if you can get the parts

Gimme a yell and I'll hook you up with some quality Chinese kit ;)

Intel HD 3000 graphics is a GPU that is on the CPU.

I would be surprised if it itself has gone wrong. Whats the symptoms?

Have you plugged an external monitor up to it? Does that work?

You know that annoying beep when scrolling? That was the first clue.

Shit graphic glitches all the time.
Internet browsers crashing/not responding when dealing with graphic-heavy tasks
Just being a tight royal cunnzor when dealing with anything that requires graphic grunt.

I could be wrong, but I've made sure I'm running the latest drivers and whatnot to no avail.

External monitor seems to work okay.

So I have to get back to work....actually teaching a dude how to support borked computers! Crazy huh? Anyway....

A couple of questions.
Which operating system?
If Windows something.... have you tried rolling back to a system restore point? (are system restores enabled on your laptop?)
Did this just start happening recently, or has it been happening a while?

Also, how old is yer lappie?

Acer 5750 - so about 18 months
Win 7 - system restore is a good point, might see how far back it goes.
Been happening a while

The way it crashes almost instantly when I launch chrome puts the shits up me, means I have to run explorer all the time.

Then likely not GPU - it's gotta run the external too.

Been good to it recently? (just in case it's something silly/minor)
CCleaner and Patch my PC are good places to start.

Could be cooling... CPU throttles back but not sure on the protection for on chip gpu?

Probably more likely dodgy memory. Try taking 1 stick out (and swapping) if you have 2.
