I Got A Brand New Morrison!

Postby Trail on Sat 12/Oct/13 8:29am

Does anyone remember the TV ad from back in the day for Morrison. Probably in the 80's (showing my age I know).

Pretty sure it was a rip off of a punk song with the line "I got a brand new motor"

Lyrics included the lines

"out here it's really breezy coz I'm riding free and easy"
" I got a brand new Morrison, a brand new 10 speed Morrison"

Pretty sure it had some guy taking the micky out of people getting hot and sweaty in their cars while stuck in traffic on a summers day. It would amuse me no end to see a clip of this if it still existed somewhere?

You're thinking of Alexi Sayle doing a cover of his own song. I've only been able to find the original:

theres a TV ad playing presently where there are two bikes sans riders and they are contrasting the "old" (implication = lame, and "new" (implication = faboo)

The old bike is quite cool. Its got a yellow frame, what looks like a big (say 700C rear wheel, perhaps a slighly smaller front, apehangers and contrasting guards. Also whitewalls and that big plastic spoke protector thingy (why did those beocme unfashionable? - they were useful AND cool)

So, what sort of bike is that yellow one?

Don't know the advert but, the bike description reads like a Healing Dragster...second bike I ever owned circa 1983
Not sure if they had spoke protectors though

I had a dragster as well. Red metallic seat and mud guards, fuck I loved that bike.
I don't think I've seen the ad or I'd have paused the tv and regaled my family with tales of my awesomeness back in my intermediate school days.

I have the Morrison catalogue with Alexei Sayle on it, clumsily tying in to the TV ads.
It would be about 1983 or so judging from the bikes.

It has the range of three Pursuit models. The top one (blue/white/yellow) is a good bike with Ishiwata quad butted tubing, a full Suntour Cyclone Mk III friction group except with a Sakae compact crank, Araya 700c clinchers. And mudguard/carrier lugs.
